New Exhibition “The Two Georges: Parallel Lives in an Age of Revolution” to Open at Library of Congress
Media Preview March 25 Offers First Look at New Exhibition that will Kick Off the Library’s America 250 Celebration
The Library of Congress will host a media preview of its new exhibition, “The Two Georges: Parallel Lives in an Age of Revolution” on March 25. This is the first exhibition of the Library’s America 250 celebration and will be on view through March 21, 2026.
About “Two Georges”
Our understanding of George Washington and King George III of Britain is clouded by myths that have accumulated over centuries. A new exhibition from the Library of Congress seeks to reveal the real men behind the myths. Washington and George III never met during their lifetimes. “The Two Georges: Parallel Lives in an Age of Revolution” brings them together for the first time through their letters, ledgers, diaries, maps, drawings, and more.
“The Two Georges” invites visitors to get to know the two Georges in their own words and discover their surprising similarities. It draws from collections at the Library of Congress, the Royal Archives at Windsor Castle, the Royal Collection, London’s Science Museum and George Washington’s Mount Vernon, among other repositories.
The exhibition is part of the Library’s America 250 celebration, marking the 250th anniversary of American independence. The exhibition opens March 28, 2025, in Washington, D.C. A companion exhibition will open at the Science Museum in London in 2026.
